The center aims to develop and facilitate research projects that are dedicated to the history, art, architecture and archaeology of civilizations in Turkey through exhibitions, symposiums, fellowships and publications.

GABAM has been founded in Istanbul, a city with great potential in terms of Byzantine studies. Being the first research center on Byzantine studies in Turkey, GABAM aims to support scientific research projects in relevant field, provide doctoral and post doctoral scholarships, organize scientific meetings, publish scientific literature and contribute to the protection and promotion of the Byzantine cultural heritage.

Koç University Suna & İnan Kıraç Research Centre for Mediterranean Civilizations (AKMED) seeks to be a leading research center on the Mediterranean world focusing on the history, archaeology, art history, ancient languages, architectural history, cultural heritage and related disciplines. AKMED’s mission is to pioneer and support national and international academic studies in the above-mentioned disciplines.

The Netherlands Institute in Turkey is a research center dedicated to the study of Turkey and surrounding regions through the ages. It conducts historical and archaeological research, and aims to support studies in the humanities and social sciences that have a bearing on Turkey, by scholars as well as students, from the Netherlands and other countries.

The aim of the Boğaziçi University Byzantine Studies Research Center is to contribute to the development of Byzantine studies in Turkey and around the world by actively promoting interdisciplinary research and education in this field and by serving as a platform for discussion and dialogue. Research on Byzantine history, culture, art, and archaeology conducted and supported by the Center will shed new light on the history and culture of medieval Istanbul, Anatolia, and the Balkans, as well as the early Ottoman Empire.

Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection is an institute in Washington, D.C., administered by the Trustees for Harvard University. It supports research and learning internationally in Byzantine, Garden and Landscape, and Pre-Columbian studies through fellowships and internships, meetings, and exhibitions. Located in residential Georgetown, Dumbarton Oaks welcomes researchers at all career stages who come to study its books, objects, images, and documents.

The German Archaeological Institute is a research institute charged with conducting, furthering and publishing research in the field of archaeology and its allied sciences. It seeks to promote unity within German archaeological sciences in the broader context of classical and ancient studies, and engages in and encourages meaningful dialogue and well-founded cooperation with its host and partner countries, as well as cultivating productive relations with international scientific institutions

The Mary Jaharis Center for Byzantine Art and Culture is dedicated to promoting and advancing knowledge about the rich heritage of the Byzantine Empire, which lasted for more than a thousand years and spanned three continents. The Center’s mission is to create academic and educational resources that engage the wider public, scholars, and the Orthodox Christian community. Its programs encourage awareness and appreciation of Byzantium and its legacy.

The American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT) is a non-profit educational institution dedicated to promoting North American and Turkish research and exchanges related to Turkey in all fields of the humanities and social sciences. ARIT provides support for these aims by maintaining research centers and libraries in Istanbul and Ankara, and administering fellowship programs to support research in Turkey at doctoral and advanced research levels.

As manifested through Pera Museum founded in 2005, İstanbul Research Institute is the second significant step in the wide spectrum of culture and arts projects Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation has pioneered since its establishment in 2003, in the fields of culture, arts, education and healthcare.

The aim of SRII is to promote academic research on Turkey, the Middle East and Central Asia, particularly in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Among the many fields of study represented at the Institute are Archaeology, Art and Architectural History, Classical and Byzantine Studies, Educational Studies, General History, with the emphasis on Ottoman and modern Turkish history, Political Science, including International Relations, Religion, Social Anthropology, Sociology as well as West and Central Asian Languages and Literatures.

The Society for the Promotion of Byzantine Studies (SPBS) was established in 1983 to further study and knowledge of the history and culture, language and literature of the Byzantine Empire and its neighbours. Its scope is wide, covering history, archaeology, art history, philology, theology and literary studies, and embraces all the language areas formerly within the Byzantine Empire – Syriac, Armenian, Arabic and Slavic, as well as Greek and Latin. It is a registered educational charity in the UK.

Like many of the works we all study, there is no original record of the birth of the Oxford Byzantine Society (OBS), now Oxford University Byzantine Society (OUBS): there is oral tradition, there are memories from the members who witnessed the birth and growth of this group of scholars, students and even amateurs who gathered together under the one flag of Byzantinism.

The Byzantine Studies Association of North America, Inc. (BSANA) was formed in 2006. It is composed of three parts: the U.S. National Committee for Byzantine Studies (USNCBS), the Canadian Committee of Byzantinists (CCB), and the Byzantine Studies Conference (BSC). USNCBS and CCB are both entities within the International Association of Byzantine Studies (AIEB, an acronym formed from its French name). The AIEB, founded in 1948, is responsible for the international Byzantine Congress held every five years.

Σύμφωνα με το Καταστατικό της, σκοπός της είναι «α) Η σύνδεσις των Ελλήνων Βυζαντινολόγων μετά της Διεθνούς Ενώσεως Βυζαντινών Σπουδών. β) Η προαγωγή των υπό της Διεθνούς Ενώσεως Βυζαντινών Σπουδών προγραμματιζομένων έργων. γ) Εν γένει η προαγωγή και ο συντονισμός των Βυζαντινών Σπουδών εν Ελλάδι. δ) Η συμμετοχή των Ελλήνων Βυζαντινολόγων και εις άλλας διεθνείς οργανώσεις επιστημονικού χαρακτήρος, πλην της Διεθνούς Ενώσεως Βυζαντινών Σπουδών (οίον η Διεθνής Ένωσις Ιστορικών Επιστημών, η Διεθνής Ένωσις Κλασσικών Σπουδών, η UNESCO, κλπ.)

Die „Deutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft zur Förderung Byzantinischer Studien“ (DAFBS) entstand in den 50er Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts. Ihrer Satzung nach „unterstützt und fördert sie alle Arten von byzantinischen Studien auf dem Gebiet der Bundesrepublik Deutschland“. Sie bietet eine organisatorische Plattform für alle diejenigen, die sich mit der Erforschung der Geschichte, Kultur, Kunst, Sprache, Literatur und Philosophie der Byzantiner im weitesten Sinne forschend und lehrend beschäftigen.

Formed in 1978, the Australian Association for Byzantine Studies is a non-profit organisation that aims to foster links between scholars, students and laypersons within Australia and New Zealand who are interested in Byzantium and related fields. The Australian Association is a member of the Association Internationale des Etudes Byzantines.

Le Comité Français des Études Byzantines (CFEB) est membre de l’Association Française des Études Byzantines (AIEB), fondée en 1948 pour la diffusion et la promotion des études portant sur l’empire et la civilisation de Byzance. Cette Association regroupe actuellement 34 comités nationaux.

The Research Centre specialises in the archaeology, history and art history of Europe (including Britain) and the Mediterranean circa AD250-circa AD800 and of the Byzantine world circa AD 400-circa 1453. Its recent work has included studies of long-distance contacts in Late Antiquity; Byzantine pottery and the end of Roman Britain and an ongoing major fieldwork project in Istanbul.

The “Centre for Byzantine Research" was founded in 1966 on the initiative of a group of Professors from the Faculty of Letters of the Aristotle University (R.D. 413/1966, FEK 106 T.A).
The Centre is a research organization which promotes the study of the Byzantine history, culture and civilization. It encompasses five Research Departments (Byzantine History, Literature, Theology, Archaeology and Art, and Byzantine Law). The Centre’s mission also includes offering research opportunities to young scholars and specialized researchers from Greek (domestic) or foreign educational institutions.

Byzantine Studies at Notre Dame is a research-oriented field of inquiry devoted to the interdisciplinary study of the history and legacy of the Byzantine Empire (324–1453).
It investigates the long-lived and influential Byzantine Empire, whose territory stood between the Islamic Middle East and Catholic Europe. As the Greek continuation of the Eastern Roman Empire, its story spans the period from the ancient world to the early modern era.

The Centre for Late Antique and Byzantine Studies was established in 2007 with the aim of fostering interest in the Late Antique period in western Europe and the Byzantine Empire in the Balkans, north Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean, broadly during the period c. AD 300 to AD 900. The Centre is a joint venture between the Departments of Archaeology and Classics, both of which have strong traditions in the field. The Honorary President is Wolf Liebeschuetz, Emeritus Professor of Classics and a distinguished scholar in late antique studies.

The Center for Medieval and Byzantine Studies at CUA offers a meeting point and active scholarly community for researchers and students of the medieval period. It involves over forty faculty members from various schools and departments and offers an interdisciplinary program in Medieval and Byzantine Studies both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.The Medieval and Byzantine Studies Program was organized in 1969 and operates under the general direction of an interdisciplinary committee. The purpose of the program is to promote the understanding and study of the medieval world and its cultures, to introduce students to various fields of the discipline and their methodologies, and to provide a solid basis for advanced research into the medieval period in subject areas which require a background that transcends the boundaries of a single discipline.

The AHRB Centre for Byzantine Cultural History was established on 1 October 2000, and is a collaborative project involving Queen's University Belfast, the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and the University of Sussex. This interdisciplinary centre brings together the literary and theological achievements of Belfast, the archaeological strengths of Newcastle, and the art historical expertise of Sussex. The Centre for Byzantine Cultural History is a collaborative project-based structure, generating conferences, colloquia, day-schools for the general public, monographs, web-pages, databases and a journal.

he Centre of Byzantine, Modern Greek and Cypriot Studies (C.E.B.N.Ch.) of Granada was founded by the Greek State through the Greek Embassy in Spain, in July 1998.
In its Governing Council, the Embassy of Greece in Spain, the Embassy of Cyprus in Spain, the University of Granada, the Ministry of Culture of the Autonomous Government of Andalusia and the Municipality of Adra (ancient Abdera) participate as institutional members of Greece in Spain.It functions as a contracted centre of the University of Granada and has attached protocols of collaboration with the University of Cyprus, Democritus University of Thrace and the University of Patras.
