Citation chaining is a strategy that helps you to locate related resources about your topic. When you find a related resource, you can use citation information to find other related resources. 

Backward chaining/searching: Basically, check the "References"/"Cited References" part of the source.

Forward chaining/searching:  Check the resources that have used this one from the "Cited by"/"Citing Articles" part.
