Podcast Production Guide

Research, Script & Ethics

Before recording, gather reliable information to support your episode.

Where to begin:

  • Review scholarly articles, books, and credible websites

  • Consult subject-specific databases

  • Explore archives, oral histories, and primary sources

  • Identify key themes and arguments

  • Take structured notes for quick reference during recording

💡 Good research gives your podcast authority and helps you speak confidently and accurately.

Questions to guide your research:

  • What is the core message of this episode?

  • What background information will listeners need?

  • Which sources best support the narrative or interview?

Whether your style is scripted or conversational, having an outline keeps the episode clear and focused.

Script Options:

  • Full Script: Best for narration-heavy or documentary-style episodes

  • Semi-Scripted Outline: Bullet points, transitions, and key facts

  • Interview Guide: Prepared questions + follow-up prompts

What to include in your outline:

  1. Introduction: Who you are, episode topic, purpose

  2. Key Points: Themes, facts, quotes, or data

  3. Transitions: Short phrases to keep flow natural

  4. Closing Section: Takeaways, acknowledgments, next episode

💡  Tip: Read your script aloud to check pacing, clarity, and tone.

If your podcast includes guests:

  • Send questions in advance

  • Clarify the episode theme

  • Schedule a short pre-interview (10–15 min)

  • Test audio and connection

  • Obtain their consent (written or verbal)
